What is klezmer music?

Klezmer is the traditional music of Ashkenazi Jews from Eastern and Central Europe. It has recently had a dramatic surge in popularity, as is Yiddish language and culture. Historically, klezmer would have been played at weddings and other social functions. It includes dance tunes and virtuosic improvisations. Modern klezmer includes everything from standard traditional listening music to electronic dance music. Students of music may recognize elements of Greek and Romanian music, German and Slavic folk dances, and Jewish ritual music.

Whether you are already a big klezmer fan or new to the genre, this event promises to be a great time with world-class musicians and dances involving crowd participation. We hope you will join us!
